Here's how Team Sample would score as the result of various medal counts among the participating countries:
Example 1: Early in the Olympic games, only eight countries have won medals. Since none are tied in the medal rankings, scoring is easy. Team Sample gets points for each country it has entered in the correct position. No points are awarded for positions 9 and 10. |

Example 2: Midway through the Olympic games, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Russia have identical medal counts and jointly occupy the first four positions. Team Sample gets points for all matches between the actual medal rankings and their predictions. |
Example 3: As the closing ceremonies get underway, the United States and Russia have a staggering lead in the medal count (and Enron stock hits an all-time high). Also, a number of countries are tied for 10th place; regardless of the number involved, any that match Team Sample's predictions for the 10th-place country result in points. Scoring is not cumulative; Team Sample's contest score is based only on the final medal counts, which may result in a final score that is lower than their apparent score earlier in the competition. Intermediate scores are posted purely for entertainment purposes. |
